PowerWashing a Chromebook

For students who have been getting bumped off Zoom a lot, TRY THIS:

These are the directions that have been given by the district on how to “Powerwash” the Chromebooks – it is kind of like a reset.

  1. Press and hold Esc + Refresh + Power keys. Let go of keys once the computer turns off. (1.5 – If it asks you to “insert a recovery USB or SD card,” press ENTER or spacebar.)
  2. Once it turns back on with a yellow exclamation point on the screen, press Ctrl + D.
  3. Press ENTER to turn OS verification OFF (Chromebook will restart)
  4. Press the spacebar to re-enable OS verification, then ENTER.
  5. Chromebook will restart, load configuration.
  6. Press on “Let’s go,” select wifi, and log in.

INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT TEAM (IST)

We are now opening IST slots to any new referrals starting on 11/30/20. If you have academic concerns about a particular student and want to get the process started, here is how:

  1. Make a copy of the IST Referral form HERE.
  2. Rename the form. For example: Machado, Camilo – IST Referral Form
  3. Complete the form. Consult X2, talk to any other teachers that service the student to get their intake. Make sure to include any data you have at this point.
  4. Once your referral form is completed, submit it HERE. Your form can be uploaded directly from your drive (last question).
  5. An IST member will reach out shortly and you will be notified of the time and day of your meeting.

We look forward to working with you this year!

Monitor Student Chromebooks Activity with Relay Classroom!

Some good news! The Relay Classroom tool has been configured correctly for all elementary students and we now have full access to monitor students’ browsing activity on their Chromebooks. A few teachers who have been trying it out have found this tool to be extremely helpful for “classroom” management and solving technical issues during remote teaching.
You can watch our video to learn how to log in to Relay Classroom and set the custom schedule for your Google Classroom. Then you will be able to monitor students’ tabs (and close them if needed!), see their screens to troubleshoot any error messages, push out links to all of your students at once, and more.

To log in and get started, go to https://classroom.relay.school and log in with Google.

For further info, check out the help page here. If you would like me to configure your classroom schedule, just let me know and make sure I am a co-teacher on your Google Classroom. In order for Principals, Assistant Principals, and Social Workers to have access to monitor student browsing activity, they would need to be co-teachers on your Google Classrooms. Thanks, Mercy

EL progress reports Update and Expectations:

EL teachers are responsible for students on their caseload. Classroom teachers are responsible for other ELs they service. EL Progress reports are done via ELLevation by looking at students’ language goals and choosing one of the options on the drop-down menu: not meeting, partially meeting, mostly meeting, meeting, or exceeding. EL teachers will start the work during the EL department meeting next week. Classroom teachers will have collaborative time during PLT for the next two weeks to work alongside EL teachers to claim students on ELLevation and complete progress reports.

Student Support Follow Up

Thank you for your feedback during last week’s staff meeting. Here are a few notes to help clarify trends in the exit ticket.

  1. You should write a new email for each incident.
  2. If your strategies are still ineffective with a student’s engagement (i.e. incentives, calling parents, etc.), that would be the time to bring to SST.
  3. We will revisit the SST process for in-person teaching when we return to the building.
  4. If you still have questions about the Instructional Support Team (IST) and the Student Support Team (SST), please ask your mentor, a teammate, someone either the SST Team or IST Team.

Literacy Updates

  1. Here is the link to the slides with information about our school wide literacy initiative: One Book, Many Voices. I am hoping you can find time to share the book Behind My Mask with your students this month and allow them to respond.
  2. Updates have been made on the Soko ELA Website
