AIP Strategy 1- Visual Art– Click me to see Jamboard

Happy last day of September!

I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s activity. The visual art looks great. Thank you to the AIP for planning, Merri and Grace for launching strategy 2 work, and Joel and D for launching strategy 1 work. (Thanks for the paint too, D!)

  • Goal Stuff: The timeline for goals has been extended.
  • Self-assessment and draft goals are due October 8th.
  • Meeting by October 22nd.
  • Signed by November 1
  • For additional dates please refer to the evaluation timeline in the Evaluation folder in our school folder.
  • If you were getting a formative last year, you would be on that same cycle. The same goes for summative (which can be found by looking at Teachpoint).
    • If you are getting a formative- You are a Teacher labeled as “Cycle 1” (We will call you the Circle group).
    • If you are getting a summative- You are a Teacher labeled as “Cycle 2” (We will call you the triangle group).
  • For teachers in year 1-3, last year counted as a year of service. If you are entering your fourth full year- Congrats. You have status and will start as a Cycle 2 teacher (staff that are getting formatives).
  • If that was not enough details, you can lookout for an email from your primary evaluator by the end of the day tomorrow with more information on the goal writing process (nothing has changed if you want to get started in TeachPoint).
  • We will use PLT next week to collaborate on a grade-level goal.

  • School Staff Update:
  • I am excited to announce that Stephanie Santarpio has officially started today. Welcome aboard! She is working out of 116 for the time being if you wanted to stop by and introduce yourself.
  • Yay! We have hired a clerk! Jessica Dunn will be joining us from the Hooks School. She has worked at the Hooks School as their front office clerk for a year and also has a background in running an office in the medical field. She will be a great addition to our school. I will keep you posted on an official start date.
  • We are still looking for: paraprofessional, building sub, 2nd-grade teacher, foundational teacher, and now a third-grade teacher.
  • We are actively monitoring our application pool, which has slowed. If you know of any way to get the message out, we would appreciate the help.

  • You can always schedule a time to meet with one of us to help answer individual questions.

  •  If you read to here- Thank you! Good news. Morning Minute will be moving to M/W/F.

Weekly Update 9/28-10/3

Happy Monday Sharks!

I hope you had an excellent weekend and had some quality downtime!

A very positive note to start your Monday. We have made contact with every student except one currently on our X2 roster. (A very normal thing for the beginning of the year, we are on it!) That is the highest percent of contact after the first full week that I have been a part of. Thank you to each one of you for making that happen. Special shout out to Sharon, Carmen, Cam, and Yolanda for their work behind the scenes. Keep up the great work! We hope to fill the technology needs this week.

Please find today’s updates here. I am sorry for the extra click; I felt slides were the best way to communicate these important updates with you.

Thank you,

Nate

  • 9/29 PD update: The last hour and a half will be school-based time. We will be creatively exploring our AIP. A large chunk of our time will be to create a visual representation of what we stand for at the Sokolowski School, think collage mural. You will have the option to work in socially distanced teams or virtual teams in breakout rooms. In case you wanted to work with colleagues in person, we wanted to give you advance notice to work in school on 9/29 or come down to the school at lunchtime. For management purposes, I will use the "working from the school schedule" to know who will be in the building. If you were not originally scheduled to work from school on Tuesday and want to change, please let me know. You are welcome to come down at lunchtime too. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • PLT reminder: When going to PLT, you will assign the science work that Cristina shared. If you have a second person in your room, they will cover until the end of the day, 2:00. If you do not have a second person, you will end class at 1:30, and students will complete the science task asynchronously. I suggest you inform families if you have not already before your PLT day. Grade 1's PLT is Monday.

Daily Updates (Day 7)

  • Back to Learning Night: We will have our Back to Learning Night from 5:00-6:30 on October 8th. A few of the main reasons we made it one night were creating a shared virtual experience, ease of having all staff available, simplifying communication to families, and finding support for translation. We will have more details by the end of the week. I wanted to get the date out so you could mark your calendar. If that day does not work for you, please let me know ASAP, and we can come up with an alternative plan.
  • Reminder: Katie B. is hosting a PLT on Friday on Imagine Learning. Please RSVP with Katie if you are interested.
  • Attendance reminders: Please post by 9:30, and all students must be marked VA or VP.
  • Other attendance tips, if your student lists are on more than one page- click on your name (upper right corner)>set preferences>look for records per page>change the number in the box.
  • PD Day sign up form

September 29th PD Day Information

Here is the info you need to know for Tuesday 9/29.

HERE is the link to the PD Website that has all the information teachers need. (teachers will need to select the September 29th PD Day by clicking on the three lines in the top left corner of the website home page)

Who should sign up:

  • ALL teachers will sign up on this form
  • Paras and related service providers are the only people who do not need to use the form.
  • Specialists are going to choice workshops so they will need to fill out this form indicating that they are going to a department meeting until 10:15 and then attending choice.
From the website, teachers can access the descriptions of the choice workshops and the google form for signing up (the google form does not have the descriptions, it made it too long!)

A few other reminders:

  • The working session is ELA or Math. Coaches and Coordinators are encouraging teams to split up and attend both.
  • Participants will hear from presenters later this week with anything specific about their workshop.
  • Some workshops have a maximum number of participants, so if a workshop is not a choice on the form when you sign up it is because it is full.
Registration is now live!
We are asking teachers to sign up by tomorrow at NOON! We know the turnaround time is quick, but we want to be able to share lists with presenters and give them time to adjust presentations based on participants.
Please ask questions to the coaches, Cam, or Nate

Chromebook and Seesaw Info

Hi Everyone,
Teachers have been asking about better helping students navigating the Chromebook page in particular split screens, and navigating Zoom on the Chromebooks.
Laura made a couple of quick videos to answer some common questions about skills that students need to be taught for navigating on the Chromebooks–giving you the student Chromebook view.
Another important note is that on the Chromebooks, links in the chat are NOT clickable for students. The easiest thing to do is post your links in Google Classroom/Seesaw or prompt students to go to the Launcher page to navigate to the site they need to go to. Otherwise you will need to teach them to copy/paste the link. (Or use Google Meet, in which links are clickable in the chat.)
Logging into Seesaw for Grades 1-3–Students are rostered into Seesaw through Clever, which syncs with your class roster in Aspen. Students have to log into Seesaw through the Clever portal. The link on the student launcher brings them right there. First graders with badges can use their badge again to log into the Clever portal. Students without badges click “Log in with Google”. Once on the Clever portal they have to click the Seesaw icon again. Here’s a video:
Here is the link for students/families on logging into Seesaw with or without the Clever badges. Parent Page
Thanks,
Mercy
